Factors to consider before buying an Antenna

TV Antenna should be able to receive signals both from the front and back side. Normally signals received from front will be better. The performance of antenna in receiving signals from front and back is measure by ratio called front-to-back ratio. When the antenna is bigger and has more cross rods than the reception as well front-to-back-ratio will be better. While installing the antenna it should be positioned in the direction of the transmission tower and the cross rods should be positioned either horizontally or vertically depending upon the direction of polarization of the transmitted signals. If the signals are weak you will get grains in your TV. Getting multiple signals is the main cause for getting ghosts on the TV. Though satellite dishes and cable TV is more popular now, receiving signals through normal antenna is continuing in view of its cheaper cost and availability of free channels through them. There is a tendency among consumers and digital HDTV signals are better relayed than normal analog signals. This is not correct. As per TV antenna selection guide for an antenna both analog and HDTV signals are same. If positioned properly in the direction of the transmitters we will be able to get clear picture through both of these signals.
