I am traditional. I am not sure if that comes with age, though I am, for sure, not that old. But I like doing things the traditional way. So I was skeptical when my son suggested we “surf” the net and avail of free auto insurance quotes for his newly purchased car. What does this thing called the internet have to do with our auto insurance if I may ask?

My son, while grinning, answered what seemed to him is a very queer question. He told me (with large frog-like eyes) that the internet is as powerful as a nuclear bomb. It can make or break a person’s reputation in split seconds just like how fast Hiroshima (an unlikely comparison, you might say, but for my son, this is my genre) was destroyed.

The internet, according to him, is far more reliable than my car insurance agent (although I did not agree, I let him do the talking). And this is because, the internet does not work for any car insurance company so we are sure to get auto insurance quotes minus the biases. Still according to my son, we can get to know insurance companies and study their policies in an hour without the hassles of driving around or asking around the neighborhood (hasn’t he heard of brisk walking being good for the heart?) for reliable companies they might recommend.

After spending the whole afternoon convincing me, I decided to give in (I took into consideration his effort of missing his favorite football game). So there I was, in a very untraditional way, sitting in front of the monitor asking websites to give me free estimates of my son’s car insurance. I was also informed of several discounts he can avail to. Not only that, I can even view some of the customers complaints and experiences with regards their insurers.

I had to admit, this has been a rewarding experience for me. Indeed, I’m Hiroshima and my son is New York. But I won’t have to admit until maybe 5 months.
